So, let's take a trip back down memory lane. The new board took over in March 1993, too late to do anything meaningful in the 1992-93 season, so their first full season was 1993-94, which saw the following league table. C Palace Nottm Forest Millwall Leicester Tranmere Derby Wolves Notts Co Middlesbro Stoke Charlton Sunderland Bristol C Grimsby Bolton Southend Portsmouth Barnsley Watford Luton West Brom Birmingham Oxford Peterborough So where are those clubs now? Bolton, Middlesbrough and Portsmouth are stable Premiership clubs. Bolton are arguably the most consistent of the three, always being in and around the European positions, whilst Middlesbrough have made a UEFA Cup final, and Portsmouth, after years of surviving near the bottom, have this season made an impact in the top half. Charlton and Watford are near the foot of the Premiership. Watford are already relegated, their second relegation in two Premiership seasons, however Charlton were an established Premiership side for many years, and this season has been an anomaly amongst recent successes. Sunderland, along with the Blues, are looking forward to Premiership football next season. Palace, Leicester, Derby, Wolves, Stoke, WBA and Barnsley have stagnated. Amongst them is a combination of both promotions and relegations from this division, but in the past thirteen years they have not made a discernible amount of progress. Of the remaining ten sides, all are playing their football at a lower level. Bristol City are on the brink of promotion back to this division, and may be joined by Nottingham Forest, however the other eight are dispersed, not only throughout the bottom two tiers, but in the case of Oxford United outside the Football League entirely. So taking into account the positions of the other 23 sides in the First Division in 1993-94, how does the record of the Blues ownership stand up? I would say it stands up pretty well. Only four of those sides (Bolton, Middlesbrough, Charlton and Portsmouth) can lay claim to more sustained success than Blues over the past fourteen years. Thoughts, opinions, rants? |

Honest opinion? From when they took over till now, brilliant imo of course they have made the odd cock up (who doesnt) but personally hope they never leave the club in my lifetime. |

They have made mistakes but overall they have done really well. I hope this time round they will not make the same mistakes that saw us relegated. They are on the way to giving us a new home which would be brilliant for this club and if done right would probably take us past the few teams that have had more success than us. I think they should be :applause: and i give them my full support. We are lucky to have them and they are lucky to have us. :Blues: together |

We are the only one of those clubs to have spent the last 14 years owned by guys worth hundreds of millions of pounds (worth at least 8 x Steve Gibson at Boro). They could have invested a small amount of that fortune to lift Blues into a completely different league to these clubs. Investment for long term growth instead of short term money grabbing. None of those other clubs had that opportunity. By now we could be comparing Blues to Spurs, Vile, Man City and Everton rather than Grimsby, Southend, Peterboro and Notts County. We have easily the richest owners of teams on that list yet we would not be in the top 3 for success on the pitch, nor the top 3 for facilities off the pitch. "Better than Grimsby" : the epitaph of the Sullivan / Gold era. |

agreed - and we have no right to expect them to plough in their personal cash anymore than any of us plough in our spare cash. one of their major achievements for me is turning us from a club heading for oblivion to one which is financially stable and if they walked away we would be safe in the knowledge blues would survive quite nicely thank you..... **thumbup |

Thousands of us do plough in our spare cash. Pro rata far far more than any of the owners have. They are entitled to spend their money however they choose & we are entitled to criticise their choices. If they had invested (not wasted) a small amount of their fortunes on growing the club then - after 14 years - we could by now have been firmly established as the number one club in the midlands. They have sat on their money and settled for mediocrity. The amazing thing is that their spin has been so good that some fans still hail them as saviours. |

Perhaps we should have gone for somebody like the Bhatti brothers who once owned Wolves and almost took them out of existence or the Leeds directors who could still do the same to Leeds. For goodness sake, give it a rest and appreciate that we have a good board of directors. However, I'm sure I won't convince you, because those blinkers you're wearing are obviously doing their job. |

Yes you do. I'm just amazed about the number of negative posts you have submitted recently. We have got promoted at the first time of asking. Not many clubs manage that after relegation. We should be celebrating, not trying to score points by constant criticism. In the media we are known as whingeing Brummies. I wonder why! I, for one, am grateful for what this board has done for the club. Sure they have made a lot of mistakes and poor judgements, but there are far more positives that they have given us in the time they have been here. I find it rather churlish to be constantly trying to find ways to criticise them at every opportunity. |

I credit them when they do good. It doesn't happen often because they don't do much good. The owners have huge resources and constant access to friendly media to promote their self-view as saviours of the blues. There are plenty of fans on here who have bought that message and who put forward a positive view of the board. Why is it so hard to tolerate an opposing point of view ? In this thread, as usual, the substantive issues that I have raised about the owners have been avoided. Merely stating that the board "have done a good job" and raising the spectre of a couple of terrible football owners doesn't amount to much of an argument in my book. |

I remember the Kumars!!!!!! For all their support and money i thank the owners for sticking around even when others would have bailed out. All we want is a Blues that we can hold our heads up high and be proud to be part of the best club in the country. IMO they have restored that after last seasons debacle so :applause: to them. KRO till i die |

As I've said, I disagree with your views, but I've made my point and I don't want this to be a long-winded discussion. I just find it sad that, in the week we are promoted, you are looking for things to criticise. |

One thing that would be interesting is to see just how much money this board have backed Bruce with compared to other clubs backing their manager, i bet this board would be in the top ten in the country, i mean Bendtner slipped down an hole and Vine for a couple of million was bought straight away, plus getting millions for a crock in Upson, some people just dont know they are born im afraid |

I was contributing to a thread about "The Board" in which the original poster asked for thoughts and opinions. Riddle me this : which other football club, anywhere, ever, has achieved so little over so many years whilst under the leadership of such fabulously wealthy owners ? |

Sadly untrue. For most of the time that Blues have had billionnaire owners Vile were owned by Deadly Doug, who was nowhere near their league financially. Despite that vile have spent all of that time in the top flight whereas we have spent more time out of the top flight than in any other 14 year period in our history. Next. |
